More on this in the Cons section.Got the 1TB version right after the Great Indian Festival for Rs. 5309, and it's worth every penny. My previous SSD was a Samsung 980 (non-pro) 500GB, and this SSD is a big upgrade even though it's only running in Gen3x2 mode (my laptop cannot provide the full 4 PCIe lanes due to the integrated Vega GPU). Everything including the latency, the IOPS and even the Sequential and Random Speeds are better, and it runs much cooler, even though it's DRAMless. Let's get into the specifics.Pros:1. There is no DRAM, but this SSD can use a large portion of it's storage as SLC Cache. This translates to a third of the drive turning into super fast storage, so over 300GB can be transferred to the drive without a noticeable drop in performance, provided the temperatures remain under control.2. Runs cooler than most other drives, period. There is no need for additional heat sinks, the drive will never go above 50 degrees Celsius when used as a boot drive, and never above 80 degrees Celsius when under constant load. This is over 20 degrees cooler than the SN580 and ~15 degrees cooler than the Samsung 980. The NVMe slot on my laptop is right under the palm rest, so this translates very comfortable surface for my palms to rest on; the 980 always felt warm and uncomfortable whenever it was stressed even a little.3. Because of the low latency, Windows and macOS (I run a hackintosh laptop) feel super snappy. When intalling games from Steam, at the file allocation stage, the laptop remains totally responsive, and the allocation occurs at peak speeds all the time. While my older 980 can have over 100GB of SLC Cache, it never remained as responsive because it got hot immediately (after 20-30 gigs).4. It's a gen4 drive, so when I eventually upgrade my laptop, I won't need to buy a better performing drive. 5GBps peak r/w seems plenty for my needs anyways.Cons:1. The price fluctuates a lot. At the time of writing, the 1TB version is available in not many stores, and on Amazon, the price goes anywhere between 5k to 8k depending on the day, even with the same seller. At 5k (which is how much I paid) or even 6k INR, this drive is totally worth the asking price, MUCH better than the SN580 which regularly stays for the same price. But for 8k, it's much better to go for the 980 Pro, or save a little and go for the 990 Pro. Both of those drives are faster, and Samsung has a robust reputation with warranties and durabilty (better than WD in my opinion). Those drives run hotter, but they're still better in a lot of other aspects.2. There is still no DRAM cache, so if you're working with super large files, you will run into performance issues.3. The packaging, meaning the box and the SSD itself, are totally bland. This is a complete non-issue, but the packaging and the drive itself look boring.4. The SN580 has more than 95% of the performance of this drive and while it runs hotter under loads, it is almost always cheaper and easier to find. The SN770 seems to be on stock clearance these days, so the 1TB version especially is harder to find for a good price; the 580 is newer and a better choice for most people and use cases, and it'll only get cheaper.Overall, this is a super decent drive if you can buy it at the lower price points. Better than the Crucial P3 Plus, 980 pro, SN580 in terms of the temps and sometimes the price. My 980 is now in an enclosure as a backup drive. This NVMe SSD has proven to be a game-changer, providing an exceptional blend of speed, reliability, and efficiency.Pros:Blazing Fast Speeds: The standout feature of the WD Black SN770 is its remarkable speed, reaching up to 4000 MB/s in both read and write operations. This has translated into an astonishingly quick boot time of approximately 8 seconds for my MSI GF 63, making the overall system responsiveness a delight.Smooth Gaming Experience: High-end gaming experiences with graphics-intensive titles like GTA V, FIFA, and CS feel like a breeze. The SSD ensures that games run seamlessly, akin to a hot knife cutting through butter. The absence of lag adds a whole new level of enjoyment to the gaming sessions. No Heating Issues: Despite the impressive speeds and demanding tasks, the WD Black SN770 maintains a cool operating temperature. The lack of heating issues is crucial for sustained performance and the overall longevity of the drive.Efficient for Creative Tasks: Beyond gaming, this SSD proves its worth in image and video editing. The lightning-fast processing speeds significantly reduce waiting times, enhancing productivity for creative professionals.Consistent Performance: Throughout the first week of usage, I have encountered no issues or drawbacks. The WD Black SN770 has consistently delivered on its promises, surpassing expectations in every aspect.Cons:Limited Usage Time for Assessment: As of now, it's challenging to pinpoint any significant drawbacks since my usage has been limited to just a week. However, the absence of issues during this initial period is a positive indicator. Conclusion:In my years of using various storage solutions, I rarely award a perfect 5-star rating. However, the Western Digital WD Black SN770 NVMe 1TB has earned every bit of it. Its outstanding speed, seamless gaming experience, and reliability make it a top-tier choice for those seeking uncompromising performance. While it's still early days in my usage, the initial impressions are more than promising. Speed is good, but the price is too high compared to the recent fall seen in the last few months. The most concerning thing that I noticed, WD should focus on its product quality, because if we compare this NVMe Circuit board with the previous old model like SN570, the board of SN770 is poor.So while installing it into another machine we must take precautions, otherwise it could get damaged easily it little bit more pressure into it.Good This is Western Digital WD Black SN770 NVMe 2TB has Higher TBW up to 1200TB which is helpful to keep its life long. Mine was pre-installed on my computer. The drive should sit parallel with the motherboard/circuit board; don't push it down too far. I've always had good luck with Western Digital storage products, even their old WD black edition mechanical hard drives. I have never had a Western Digital drive fail on me yet, still have my old 640GB black drives from 2010. Magnet screwdriver is really recommended to install this drive, the retaining screw is VERY small. Be careful not to cross thread it as well. No DRAM on the drive but does use HMB (Host-based Memory Buffer) for speedy operation. Works great for gaming. Love the black color, matches my all black computer theme well. Doesn't seem to run hot at all, haven't seen anything over 50C while gaming (these usually mount near a very hot graphics card (if you have one) in desktop computers). All in all decent price for pretty good performance. If your a gamer the money saved here could go to something really useful like a bigger graphics card, more system RAM (memory) or next tier up CPU. The "SSD Dashboard" app is decent as well, shows drive spec's, health, used and available space, interface speed supported, interface speed connected, S.M.A.R.T tests, temps, if "DirectStorage" is supported, checks and updates drive firmware as well and a bunch of other stuff. It's one of the last good apps that you can select to "not start up automatically". It'll show other installed drives as well but doesn't show any info on them if they aren't Western Digital. All in all a good purchase.
